From: lucerosocialclub@therebelgroup.com
Subject: Portland Show Canceled!
Date: Fri, 30 Oct 2009 11:20:19 -0500

We are very sorry to announce that the Portland show that was supposed to happen tonight is canceled. Roads have been closed, and the weather hasn’t been treating the tour bus very nicely. After a long winded diagnostic check on the bus, the hard decision had to be made, and the Portland show will have to be canceled. Again, we’ll let you know any future changes and refunds will be granted at point of purchase.

Lucero brings their live ROCK show back to Portland this Friday night at the Hawthorne Theater. The band is touring behind their new album, 1372 Overton Park, which is a tribute to their hometown of Memphis, TN & also their major label debut. The new tracks feature lots of brass & the horns are out on the road with the band as well to shake it up a little. Welcome back Ben & the boys to the Northwest and get to the venue early to support fellow Memphis musicians Jack Oblivian & John Paul Keith & the One Four Fives.

The Gossip Return Home to the Wonder Ballroom

Started in Olympia in 1999 & eventually moved down to PDX, Gossip is one of the hottest bands coming out of our fine city. The newest release was produced by the one & only Rick Rubin & has been getting rave reviews and critical acclaim. Catch them at the Wonder Ballroom this weekend as they kick off a world wide tour which will bring them across the USA & then to Europe & Australia.

BIO: The genre-bending DIY post-punk rock trio Gossip bring a new level of lyrical power and musical sophistication to their ever-evolving, always-electrifying sound and sensibility on Music For Men, the indie group’s first major label studio album. According to Gossip guitarist and music creator Brace Paine, the idea of calling the band’s new album Music For Men comes straight from Beth Ditto, the Gossip’s iconoclastic lead singer and charismatic front-person. “It’s like a feminist joke,” Brace offers by way of wry explanation.

And while the Gossip incorporate a deft sense of cultural irony into Music For Men, there’s nothing confusing about the post-punk trio’s musical approach: direct and visceral, pulsing with a raw and unapologetic animal energy, drummer Hannah Blilie’s propulsive rhythms interlocking with Brace’s heart-pounding riffs and Beth’s aggressive and cathartic vocals.

One of the year’s most highly-anticipated event releases, Music For Men, the Gossip’s new musical manifesto, marks the group’s first full-length studio collection since their signature anthem-of-empowerment, “Standing In The Way of Control,” broke-out big in 2006. Music For Men is the first new music from the group since the release of its major label debut, Live In Liverpool.

On-board to make sure the Gossip got the studio sound they were looking for was producer Rick Rubin, who the helped the band find its own distinct groove in every track. “He is a true mystic,” Brace observes “All we talked about was John Cage. He’s only cares about music, speakers and sound systems. He’s really amazing to work with. I’d say ‘make the bass sound like PiL’ and he’d know what I was talking about, he got all the references. He would let me do whatever I wanted to do. Such awesome energy.”

Willy Porter Comes to the Aladdin Theater This Week!

Willy Porter is a one-of-a-kind musician. Not only is he a guitar virtuoso, but he is also a great songwriter & performer. One of the very few artists that can carry a show solo for the entire night with a combination of skill, humor & musicianship! “How To Rob A Bank,” the latest release from esteemed guitarist/singer-songwriter Willy Porter, showcases his continued growth as a songwriter and recording artist. Porter offers a rich blend of salt and sugar with tracks that move easily from rough-hewn electric edges into soulful irony with equal aplomb. Jeff Giles of Popdose.com says, “It’s another solid entry in a discography full of them, and one of the smarter, more durable albums of grown-up music we’re likely to get this year.”

Blitzen Trapper: Live @ Doug Fir – Friday & Saturday Nights!

It’s been quite a year for Portland’s own Blitzen Trapper. After releasing the critically acclaimed Furr & touring behind it for most of 2009 the band returns to Portland this weekend for two shows at the Doug Fir to wind down 2009. According to a recent article in Spinner maagzine, the band plans to take a break from the road to record thier yet-to-be-titled 5th album due out in 2010. “I’ve been writing a lot all year and recording since January. Three or four songs are already done.” In the scheme of creating a Blitzen Trapper record, though, three or four songs are just the tip of the iceberg. “I usually record a whole lot of songs for each record. We recorded over 30 songs for ‘Furr,’” says Earley. Y La Bamba (10/23) opens the show on Friday night & Wye Oak (10/24) supports on Saturday night.
